Canning Basics
By Faith Hinchman on
4/28/2012 9:47 AM
In case the thought of canning anything just scared you with thoughts of botulism invading your home, here are a few basics about the canning process.
Canning is great if you're concerned about what is going into your food. Since you're in control of the canning process you know what ingredients are going in, you know how fresh everything is, and you're making food without all the additives commonly found in canned foods.

A New Look At Pullups
By Luis Vera on
4/20/2012 8:31 AM
The infamous pull-up. If you are not doing pull-ups in your routine, you should. For some people just one pull-up is difficult, but it is by far the best back and arms workout you could do. Let's let's take a look at the many variations.

Organic Weed Killer
By Faith Hinchman on
4/12/2012 8:16 AM
If you’re anything like me your front yard is in a sad state after last year’s drought and hot summer. If you’re even more like me you’re secretly happy about the rain and that it has caused so many weeds to grow. Because you know, if you cut weeds down they look like grass. At least this is what you tell yourself until they sprout up like crazy within a few days and go back to looking like weeds.

Getting Started with Composting - Container Composting
By Faith Hinchman on
3/30/2012 8:30 PM
Getting started in composting is easy. I had wanted to start a compost pile for awhile. When I first mentioned it to my husband John his main thought was, "I don't want a big, smelly pile of trash in the backyard." We also didn't want the dogs climbing around in it. After a bit of research I decided to container compost. I figured, I've already done the container garden, why not move on to container composting? I started with a big trash can I bought at a box retailer for about 10 dollars. I drilled holes throughout to allow lots of air flow.

Getting Started with Gardening - Container Gardening
By Faith Hinchman on
3/27/2012 8:40 PM
Interested in vegetable gardening, but not sure where to start? Why not start small with one or two plants in containers?
I decided to go the container route for my first year of gardening. I am the previous owner of a very black thumb and I wanted to make sure I could keep my plants alive before I started putting them in the ground.

I'm Faith, a Native Texan who moved to San Antonio for college and never left. Married to John and we have a house full of dogs and a backyard full of chickens. I’m a self-proclaimed foodie and have never met a bite of food I haven’t liked. I’ve always thought I had a black thumb until one day I started a garden and managed to keep it alive. Join me as I strive to create a green space in my little corner of the world all while balancing a full-time job and a full-time life. Together we'll try to find that balance between healthy choices and convenience.

My name is Luis Vera and I love two things, my wife and working out. I've be
en working out for the last
2
and half
years while living 30 minutes from the nearest gym.
I have two philosophies when it comes to being healthy. The first is that you should make working out a part
o
f your new
lifestyle and you need to make it comfortable so that you have a
n e
asier time. After all, it's about maintaining a balance in your life. My second philosophy is to
learn to really love food. The truth is
when someone says "I love food" it really means they love food that is bad for them. So try something new
when you go out to eat. Find a balance and you'll enjoy food a lot mor
e.
