Communities Putting Prevention to Work Initiative
2011 © San Antonio Metropolitan Health District. This website was supported by the Communities Putting Prevention to Work Grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and funded by the 2009 American Reinvestment and Recovery Act.
As part of the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have awarded grants for 44 communities across the country using federal economic stimulus funds to support community-based chronic disease prevention projects.
The City of San Antonio Metropolitan Health District (Metro Health) was selected as one of the grant recipients. Metro Health received funding to reduce and prevent obesity in children and adults by conducting activities in school and community settings across Bexar County in partnership with several local businesses and organizations, school districts, and other City of San Antonio departments. Together, the partnership will increase physical activity and improve nutrition in the community by implementing several strategic, evidence-based policy, environmental, and systems changes.
